Enrichment

At St Martin’s, we have three core values: traditional values, learning for the future, and outstanding personal achievement.  Our subject leaders ensure the delivery of an enriched curriculum in lessons, but as a school, we also focus on an enriched experience outside of lessons too. Our enrichment programme enables our students to flourish and thrive in ways that promotes independence and interpersonal skills with staff and pupils across the school.  Having a robust enrichment programme is a fundamental part of our core values

Extra-Curricular

Our extra-curricular provision ensures that pupils get to take part in a whole host of clubs and groups that suit their interests and talents. Pupils with a keen interest in sports can join any number of teams that the PE department lead.  For the more creative pupils, there are groups run by various departments across the school.  And for the pupils that have something to say?  They can join our debate club or creative writing group.  Further information about extra-curricular can be found here:

Pupil Leadership

At St Martin’s, we want to provide opportunities for pupils to support the life of the school and develop their leadership skills so they are fully-equipped for tomorrow’s world.  There are plenty of ways into pupil leadership at various points in a pupil’s journey, from joining our anti-bullying group “Freddie’s Friends” in Year 7 to becoming a Prefect in Year 10.  For the Prefects that really thrive, we have PIPS in Year 11 (Prefects in Peer Support) that involves directly working with the younger pupils in Year 7 and 8.  Finally, our Sixth Form has a Pupil Leadership team that meet regularly with the Sixth Form Leadership team.

Careers & The Wider World

Our careers team, Mrs Frappell and Mrs Hobbs are responsible for ensuring that pupils are able to leave St Martin’s prepared for their next steps – College, University, Apprenticeships or the world of work. To this end, we run “Take Your Child to Work” day for Years 7-9, and then Work Experience in Year 10.  This gives our pupils an invaluable insight into the world of work.  We also have connections with the Army, the DWP, and lots of local and national employers who kindly give up their time to come into our school to speak to, and work with, our pupils.  To drive home the importance of learning for the future, our school’s curriculum is regularly reviewed to see where we can make further connections between the lessons and the world of work.

British Values & Culture

Our society is constantly evolving.  We have a duty to ensure our pupils learn about British values, such as:

·         Democracy

·         Rule of Law

·         Respect and Tolerance

·         Individual Liberty

These values are embedded throughout our school.  Through PRE (Philosophy, Religion & Ethics) and PSHE (Personal, Social, and Health Education), pupils will focus on these British values.  These are then further promoted through assemblies, enhancement days and events.  In 2024, the school held its first ever Culture Day – an opportunity for pupils to learn about culture from different subjects, culminating in a fashion show by a range of pupils from different cultural backgrounds
