‘A St Martin’s Sixth Former is Confident, Resilient and Motivated’ – Sixth Form Vision
St Martin’s Sixth Form offers the opportunity for young people to study, socialise and thrive in a structured and caring environment. Our vision ensures that students in St Martin’s Sixth Form have both the outstanding academic development, as well as personal development, to support their future journeys. We are a hugely popular Sixth Form with 350 students across both Year Groups, offering a wide variety of A-Level and vocational qualifications.
A key strategy that we use to ensure that our students can fulfil their personal and academic aspirations is by providing a wide range of opportunities. Student leadership and student voice is a key priority and we ensure that Sixth Formers have access to a wide variety of leadership opportunities through the Student Leadership Team, Student Voice Team, peer-to-peer mentoring and Subject Ambassador roles. Equally, students can access our impressive range of extra-curricular opportunities in sport, music, drama and many other areas. It is vital that these opportunities are provided to our Sixth Formers, to support them in acquiring and enhancing the skills needed to become leaders within the twenty-first century.
Our students traditionally will progress on to university, while an increasing number of students are now beginning to consider high-degree apprenticeships and employment. In 2024, we supported 112 students in Year 13 to secure places at university, with 29% of them accepting courses at one of the Russell Group universities. We give students unique and bespoke pathways guidance through Sixth Form, so that, by the time of application, they have all the necessary information and skills to be successful in their applications. We also work with numerous guest speakers and apprenticeship providers. Recently, our Sixth Form has welcomed Ford Motor Company and PricewaterhouseCoopers to present some of their unique apprenticeship opportunities to our students. At St Martin’s Sixth Form, we do not believe that ‘one size fits all’ and, as a result, ensure that all students are exposed to all future pathway possibilities so that they can make the most informed and right choice for them.
Ultimately, teaching and learning is our passion and we have a varied curriculum that encourages the acquisition of skills to be a success. Above all else, our Sixth Form is built on traditional values of hard work and accepting challenges when they arise. We are proud of the young people that make up our St Martin’s Sixth Form, the successes they have achieved, both academically and personally, and look forward to supporting them to Be The Best They Can Be. We invite all prospective Year 12 students to visit St Martin’s on our Open Evening on 17 October, between 17.30 and 19.30 to see for themselves how special it is to be part of the Sixth Form at St Martin’s.
